Wellness at Work Is No Longer Optional

Employee wellness has evolved from a “nice-to-have” to a strategic imperative. Today’s workforce expects inclusive, holistic programs that go beyond traditional offerings to address mental health, financial wellbeing, chronic condition management, and generational needs. Employers are responding with innovative strategies that integrate wellness into the broader benefits ecosystem.

To understand these shifts, EPIC surveyed 238 benefits leaders nationwide to uncover current practices, challenges, and future investment plans in workplace wellness.

Key Findings Include:

  • Wellness Is Mainstream: 7 in 10 employers offer or are developing a workplace wellness program, and most believe wellness should be integrated across all benefits – not siloed.
  • Top Barriers & Motivators: Budget constraints and lack of time remain the biggest hurdles. Education, affordability, and clear ROI are key drivers for future investment.
  • Mental Health Leads the Way: 75% of programs include mental and behavioral health support, up from 52% in 2023. Financial wellness and fitness discounts are also common.
  • Engagement Is a Challenge: Low participation affects over half of employers, and measuring outcomes remains difficult.
  • Future Investment Is Rising: 41% of employers plan to increase wellness spending in the next 1-2 years, with mental health, preventive physical health, and financial wellness topping the list.
