EPIC Welcomes Another SkillBridge Graduate: Ashley Salmones Joins the Northeast Region
As EPIC continues to grow its partnership with the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, we’re proud to celebrate another incredible transition story.
Please join us in welcoming Ashley Salmones, who has officially joined the Northeast Region as a Claims Associate on Sergio Vera’s Commercial Lines team.
Ashley brings over 20 years of experience in the United States Air Force, where she served as a Paralegal at supervisory and managerial levels. Her military career spanned a wide range of legal disciplines including federal tort claims, criminal litigation, contract and fiscal law, ethics, and legal research. Ashley’s last assignment saw her leading four offices across three states in support of the U.S/ nuclear program, a role underscoring her leadership and strategic impact.
However, Ashley’s heart was always in claims. “Claims was always my favorite duty as a Paralegal,” she shared. “I wanted to get back to helping people, so I specifically sought out a claims role in the insurance industry.” After researching SkillBridge opportunities, Ashley found that EPIC’s values aligned closely with her own, and after speaking with several team members, she knew this was the right place to begin her next chapter.
During SkillBridge, Ashley made an immediate impact. She worked on Open Claims Reviews with clients, prepared reports, participated in meetings, reviewed loss run reports, and even observed the creation of an RFA. She also took the lead in tracking and monitoring claims progress and provided coverage for teammates when needed.
Ashley dove deep into New York Workers’ Compensation, learning the intricacies of a system vastly different from her federal tort claims background. “Federal tort claims are nothing like the process that the carrier’s adjusters go through,” she said. “As a paralegal, you handled everything — no matter the type or complexity. At EPIC, I’ve learned how specialized and collaborative the insurance world is.” She credits the SkillBridge program at EPIC for helping her make a smooth transition. “The Excel training with Deepa Nupane was incredibly helpful, and the one-on-one training solidified everything. The mentorship program with Matthew Tricomi, another EPIC veteran was a huge help — having someone with military experience to talk to made a big difference.”
